How much money do you want to make this year?

If you’ve answered this question with a round number, like, $100,000, or $1,000,000, or an, “I don’t know,” you don’t have a goal, you have a wish. It’s imperative that you know your goal income numbers, specifically. You must know how much you have to net today, this week, and this month in order to land the yearly salary that will support the lifestyle that you desire.

Here are some get-specific Millionaire Mindset methods:

• What would you like to do in the next year? Move? Take your dream vacation? Send a child to college? Hire someone to manage all of that stuff for you? Or make it possible for your spouse to leave his or her job to come to work for you?

Don’t forget the smaller costs that go along with each large goal, like the cost of providing your newest employee with a company car and fringe benefits, travel costs, tuition, and your existing lifestyle costs. Don’t estimate. Make phone calls. Get current pricing on airfare, college tuition, health care, or whatever bills you’ll have to foot. Write it down…you’re going to need it.

• Now that you’ve done the addition, do the division. Break out the calculator and find out how much you’ll need to net in a month, a week, and a day. This will give you a manageable and reachable goal path.

Lots of people say they want to be millionaires. But if you ask them how much they need to make this afternoon to stay on track for that wish, you’ll likely be met with a dumbfounded look. Once this step is completed, you will be distinctly separate from those with a wishing frame of mind.

• Challenge yourself in the pursuit of your income goal. If that means working an extra 30 minutes to meet your daily income goal, do it. If that means negotiating on a deal, even if you’re not comfortable with negotiation, then do it.

When you know how much money you need to earn this week, in pursuit of the big goal, you’ll be encouraged to do the things that aren’t so desirable. Every time you challenge the boundaries of your comfort zone, those boundaries will soften, and your comfort zone will grow.

A goal like, “I want to make a million bucks this year,” will never incite you to rewrite an email or to hold firm on your retail price for an item. But if your goal is, “I need to clear another $50 today to stay on track,” you’ll push right through, because you will connect those little tasks with your big goals for yourself, your family, and your lifestyle.

• Successful business people always know their numbers. They rifle off their conversion rates, costs, costs of sale, and precise percentage profits. Businesspeople who don’t know are probably losing money.

• If the thought of calculating, relating to, or speaking about numbers frightens you, then hire a business manager to do it for you. Investing all of your energy in working in your business, without working on your business, will be detrimental to your income goal.

• The numbers might be simple now, but if your goal is to make a million dollars, or any other impressive number, you’ll have to expect the money flow, in both directions, to become more complicated. Adopt a know-your-numbers attitude now, rather than jumping into a sea of number soup when your chances of drowning are high.

In short, know how much money you need to make. Then know how much money you need to make this week in order to reach that goal. Name it, and then claim it!

Are you making as much money as you want? This is a simple yes or no answer. Just be honest. You either are or you aren’t.

Do you have as much time off as you want? Again, be honest. You either do or you don’t.

Are you having as much fun as you want? Are you doing big, bold things that really excite you?

Are you living the lifestyle you want?

If you’ve answered “no” to any of these questions, don’t be disheartened. Just decide to do what you need to do to change your answers to “yes.”

Decide is the key word.

The very first thing you need to do is make your decision. Achieving your goals – making the money you want, having the time off you want, living the lifestyle you want – everything starts with the decisions that you make right here and now.

Decide what your goals are. Name and define them, so that you are clear about what you’re going after. If you want to spend more time with your family, hire a nanny, get a housekeeper, or bring on a personal assistant so you can have more free time, make the decision to make these things happen.

Once you decide to name your goals, your next decision is how to achieve them. The means and methods you implement to grow your business are external decisions. They are obvious and noticeable. Deciding to create a product, do a promotion to your mailing list or conduct a teleseminar are examples of outward decisions you can make to help you accomplish your goals.

But, even before you can decide how to go about achieving your goals, you have a bigger decision to make, one that is much less noticeable.

This is an inward or internal decision, and it’s an equally big part of achieving your goals. It’s about daring to dream the things that you once believed you didn’t deserve.

You have to make the decision that you do deserve them.

Give yourself permission to be daring; to dream bigger and think bigger. Decide that you deserve to respond “yes” to every one of those earlier questions.

You are entitled to make as much money as you want. You are at liberty to take as much time off and have as much fun as you want.

You have to decide that you deserve to live the lifestyle you want.

Decision is the key.

Once you clearly decide to make your business and your life what you want them to be, you will take the first big step toward achieving your dreams.

There is nothing to fear but fear itself. You’ve surely heard this more than a few times in your life.

Fear is your biggest foe. It will not only try to conquer you, it will have you fighting against yourself to overcome it. Your own fear is your toughest opponent, in your personal and your business life.

But, overcoming your fear is well worth the fight.

Imagine the tremendous feeling of not being afraid anymore.

The rewards you receive when you face challenges and obstacles, when you overcome and conquer your fears, will step up your life and your business.

Throughout the past couple of years, some of my own worst fears have manifested. But, I’ve dealt with them, and the beauty is that I’m no longer afraid of those things.

Every time you bust through a fear, other things will happen that allow you to put that fear behind you. You’ll gain emotional energy because your subconscious energy won’t be tied up in that fear any longer. It’s like getting more energy every day.

Think about it. What would you offer the world if you could stop being fearful? What would you do if you weren’t afraid? What would you do if ridicule or rejection or losing your money or losing your family didn’t scare you? What would you do?

You would be unstoppable.

Another reward of facing your fears is the confidence you get from doing that. Don’t misinterpret confidence as being equal to cockiness or arrogance. The kind of confidence you gain when you stand up to your fears and challenges isn’t like that at all.

Confidence, in the true meaning of the word, literally means “with faith.” That’s what is on offer as you learn to step up.

What would it mean to you to live in total faith? What would your life be like knowing that whatever happens is for the best? You wouldn’t be afraid of anything. Even if something unexpected should happen, you would know that it’s actually a blessing in disguise.

Imagine living every day of your life like that.

Of course, monetary reward is another huge benefit you reap when you step up and take on the challenges and fears head on.

But to be perfectly honest, I think you will find that the emotional gain you get when you’re playing a bigger game – when you realize the game can only grow bigger and bigger because you’re unstoppable – that is the real reward, the true victory in winning your battle against fear.

Many people go out of business because they have failed to align their product with what the market demands – and with what their inner selves demand.

Many times, businesses need to endure a breakdown before a breakthrough can be felt. Sometimes, the bad times are the only times that spur the need for positive change. In other words, even if you’re struggling with simply “making it,” there’s plenty of hope.

I know you want an endless supply of customers – a flow that’s as intense as you’re willing to handle. But there’s an important element to consider before moving forward. You must ensure that any success you’ve experienced to this point isn’t just a symptom of luck. I like to say that even a broken clock shows the right time twice a day. If you glance at the clock randomly, there’s a chance you might get the right time. And if you do, you might be fooled into thinking the clock is working. But it’s not.

You have to make sure that people are coming to you because of the one-of-a-kind value you’ve offered them, not because they’ve stumbled upon you.

There’s no denying that you have a treasure trove of valuables to offer. You have gifts, talents, and abilities that are guiding you toward your perfect mission. You know there are people out there that would greatly benefit from what you have to offer. But when you can’t find those people, or they can’t find you, it can be a painful disappointment. Because your venture really is your calling, right? Or isn’t it?

Every business owner has a calling, and to truly find success in that calling, that business owner needs to be assured that their distinctive abilities are made apparent by that business.

Often, your attempts at furthering your business aren’t the problem. Instead, it might be that you have missed something that’s fundamental to attracting clients: finding that one thing that only you can offer, and that consumers are looking for.

If you are passionate about something, and it happens to also be a God-given gift, then somewhere in the world, there is a demand for that service. God isn’t wasteful. He wouldn’t give you something and not create an equal and opposite need for it.

Your challenge is to find the channel through which you can deliver your true value to those who need it. Frederick Buechner defines vocation as the place where passion meets the world’s greatest hunger. This is a beautiful statement. It reinforces the idea that we’re all here to do something or be someone. Unfortunately, it doesn’t tell us how to make the connection, or how to keep ourselves in business.

To get a better grasp on this channel, take the time to reflect on you. You are a vehicle for delivering the gifts that the world is waiting for. Put your gifts in writing, and assess them. Then ask yourself these questions:

• How do my gifts complement one another?

• How can my talents be combined to create something unlike anything the world has ever seen?

• Does that combination meet a need?

• If not, can I find a legitimate need?

• Or do I need to find a new and different recipe for those gifts, based on a need I know I can satisfy?

Carving out your vocation using the talent and need factors will go miles to pull your business through adversity. In times of adversity, luck is nowhere to be found…but true value never dwindles.

If, after true introspection, you still believe that you are where you need to be, and the consumers just aren’t coming, stay with me. There are secrets yet to be revealed that might affect your view, and your success, in a manner that you haven’t yet considered.

“Knowledge will not attract money unless it’s organized and intelligently directed through practical plans and action.” Napoleon Hill, from Think and Grow Rich.

I love this quote. It’s true that all of the knowledge, skill and expertise in the world won’t make you money and turn your vision into reality unless you have an actual plan for how to use them.

Before you can formulate your plan, however, you need to start first with your vision. You have to really see where you want your business to go.

The following questions will help you to plan to reach your business goals by first giving you a clear mental image of what those goals are.

How much money do you want to make?

Name your revenue goal for this year. You have to put a figure on it. When you voice that goal, don’t phrase it in the form of a question. You’re not asking someone’s permission to make that money. State, out loud, what you want to make.

If that figure is in your head, if it’s in your heart, and if it’s something you’ve been dreaming of, it’s absolutely achievable. Doreen Virtue says that God doesn’t give us our dreams without the ability to make them real.

So whatever the figure is, you have to name it to claim it.

Rather than naming a general, round figure – 100,000, a quarter-of-a million, or a million - be more specific. Round figures aren’t real enough for you. Calculate what your dream life would cost you, and then cost it out. It’s rarely going to be a round number. So, get really clear on your revenue goals.

What kind of lifestyle do you want to live?

Think about your lifestyle goals. How much do you want to be working? For example, do you want to take extended vacations and not work for a couple of months?

I decided last year that I didn’t want to work more than three days a week. And now, I don’t. There are plenty of things that will test your decision. You have to decide what’s right for you, and get it down on paper. Remember, the point is to visualize how you want things to be.

Will your business make a significant impact?

Finally, your vision is probably not solely about serving yourself. I’m willing to bet that it’s not only about money and a nice lifestyle, although these are great to have.

I believe that all of us are here to make a difference.

What are your impact goals? Know who the people are that you want to serve and what contribution you want to make. What do you want to be remembered for?

Mapping out your vision of your business, in your mind’s eye and on paper, will give you a good idea of what you want your business to look like.

The mental image and visual reinforcement will help you to develop a plan for making your vision a reality.

Do you think your database of customers isn’t large enough for you to reach your sales goals? If you think that the only way you can make big money is with a bigger list, don’t believe that for a second longer.

Even if you have only a very small database, you can extract very large incomes from it.

Plenty of successful people started with no database and were able to meet their goals, including me and many of my mentors. I did not have a database when I began. I created one as I went along.

Don’t use what you perceive to be a lack of potential clients on your list as an excuse for not making the money you want. You don’t need a large database to make a lot of money. You can still reach your sales goals. You just have to want it badly enough.

What you need, more than a larger list, is to believe in yourself. If you present your product or service with a positive belief system, the customer list you have will pay the type of prices you’re asking.

One of my mentors, has a mastermind group with only 12 people. A very small list, but they pay $100,000 a piece. If only 3 of them sign on for a product, that’s significant earnings.

Of course, you can change the amount to a figure that more closely represents your product or service, but the message is clear. My mentor, believes his program is worth the price, and he believes his database will pay it. You should believe the same about yours.

As you go along, you will obviously learn how to grow your database, but your ability to make money is more about your self-worth.

Not only do you need to believe that you would spend the money on the product you’re offering, you have to believe that the clients on your list would spend that much money, as well.

Believe that, and it won’t matter what size database you have. Self-worth controls your income. Not the size of the database. Not where you live. Not the clothing that you wear or the people that you know.

If you increase your self-worth, everything can be taken away from you and you will instantly have it back overnight. You will always make money because your income is definitely directly tied to your own self-worth.

It doesn’t matter what your product is or how many potential clients are on your list. If you believe you’re worth a million, you will go out and generate a million.

“The most important investment you can make is in yourself.” Warren Buffet

Have you ever heard the saying that games are won and lost in the dressing room? Any sports coach can tell you, it doesn’t always boil down to the performance on the field; it’s about that critical time in the dressing room before the game or even during the opening plays. It’s about attitude and what it means going forward.

Well, we’re in the dressing room now, and it’s time to hit the field. Are you ready, or have you set yourself up for a loss before the first play?

It’s easy to get discouraged about your prospects when you’re listening to the news or reading the newspaper articles on today’s economic climate. But is that news causing you to forfeit the game? Certainly we can’t ignore the news, but don’t use it as justification to stop investing in yourself, to stop growing and developing or to stop taking risks in business.

My bet for the upcoming game is that there is a gap forming. Those who are giving up and those who are determined to succeed. And with each passing day, that gap is widening. So you need to determine which side you prefer. Those who are giving up before the game starts or those who are determined to win.

If you go forward with a winning attitude, one where you say “Yes, the game is changing, but I’ll stay alert, adjust my strategy and win” you’re going to be fine. That’s the game changer – your attitude.

We are all facing challenges. Some businesses may fail, others flourish and others may just fail to flourish. You need to take stock of your situation and decide now if you’re going to flourish. And when you do that, when you make that decision, you’re going to set yourself up so that you play the best darn game that you have played in years.

When you take this step, this decision to succeed – do it with a goal in my mind. Give yourself a specific point spread to win the game. Don’t hold back and play it safe. It’s one thing to say you’re going to win, but quite another to say you’re going to win the game by five goals.

Now, that goal may seem out of reach and may even seem scary. That’s not a bad thing, a goal should stretch you and create just a bit of uncertainty. It’s that uncertainty that will help you grow into your goal over the next year. It’s what is going to push you to succeed and create the path to success.

What’s stopping you from setting the goal? Is it the fear that you’re not going to reach it? What happens if you don’t make your goal, whether it is financial or the growth of your business or the number of clients you gain? Well, what’s happened is that you’ve come closer to success than you would have if you hadn’t set the goal in the first place! Don’t use this as an excuse to not reach your target or to set one that’s too safe. But set a goal that’s going to lead you to win, and win big.

So, we’re here, in the dressing room. Now’s the time – decide right here, right now that you’re going to win the game and decide by how much you’re going to win.

You probably don’t talk to children in the same manner as you talk with adults. Your conversations with close personal friends are likely more intimate than those you have with professional colleagues.

Well, the same holds true for the language you would use to speak with corporate executives as opposed to their employees.

You need to identify the audience you’re working with and the environment you are working in, and then adapt your language and approach accordingly. The areas you focus on and the phrasing you use with end users won’t be the same as those you use with the decision-makers.

You need to understand who your client is and be very clear on what your message to that client is.

The words you use to attract the buyer – the company or the corporation – may be precisely the right words to persuade them to sign on for your services. You may offer them statistics about how poor feedback costs companies a lot of money, how aspects like ineffective meetings waste company time, or how poor communication and personal issues lead to low employee retention rates.

But, these are not the same words you would use when delivering your service to the end user. You don’t want to portray them in a bad light. Essentially, you’ve got two clients. The language that you use to sell your service at one level should be different from the outline of the training that you distribute to the staff.

It’s very important to have that awareness. What is going to motivate and excite the end user – the staff member – does not have the same value or criteria as what inspires the person who is signing the checks. You need to have the flexibility to understand what’s important to both groups and then separately speak to each group in way that motivates them.

The end result is the same for both. Ultimately your objective, and obligation, is to help to improve the company. And you are making life better for the person that attends your course or workshop.

If, for example, you know you can help companies improve the effectiveness of their staff meetings, you would present this to them in a different manner than you would to the employees who conduct and attend those meetings. Everybody wants to participate in more effective meetings, but everybody also wants to blame the ineffectiveness of their meetings on someone else.

In the language to promote the course to the company, you might cite statistics about how ineffective meetings waste X amount of money. You can even evaluate the cost of meetings. One unnecessary meeting could cost an organization thousands of pounds. Then you would sell the specifics of what’s covered in your course.

During the course, your focus wouldn’t be on the cost of meetings to the company, it would be on how employees can make sure meetings stay on track, how to handle confrontational situations or deal with difficult people. The focus would be on making the best use of staff members’ time and talents.

So you are, in essence, presenting the same thing – in this example, a course or workshop – to two different audiences. But, you can certainly structure your language and approach so that it meets with everybody’s approval.

“I want to buy that.” This is the immediate reaction you want people to have when they first see your offering: You want them to have that reaction before they even know the price.

To make that happen, you need to create products that are irresistible. There are a few universal principles to develop truly appealing products.

1. Find a hook. Recognize the “miracle cure” the public is looking for, and present your product as the closest thing possible to that miraculous fix.

One example is Yanik Silver’s Instant Sales Letters product. Yanik has achieved great success with this product. They are his “miracle cure” for people who need to create effective sales letters, but don’t have enough time to write them. So he put together some fill-in-the-blanks templates to make it easy to prepare sales letters. Of course, clients may have to do some tweaking to make a template work for their specific purpose. But the point is, they work. Even if the template needs to be revised, they’ve still got a Sales Letter. And that is very attractive to people with little extra time. The Instant Sales Letter product is a hook for them – the “miracle cure”.

2. Focus on the content first and the format second.

When you are planning your content, think about what you’re going to cover rather than how you’re going to cover it. Don’t decide that you are going to offer an e-book or a teleseminar until you know what information you will be including.

The format should be secondary. It should be based on what makes the most sense for your market, and what fits best with the product.

As you are mapping out your content, outline everything that your product will cover. You don’t need to include every single detail you know about the topic. Include the information your prospect needs in order to get the results they want. Include the detail that will get their immediate attention because you’re providing the solution they need.

Brainstorm all of the things that your end user will need to get the results that your product will deliver. Write the question “what will they need” in your journal, or put it up in your office. It will act as a prompt for your subconscious mind to come up with the answers. Use can these answers to create your outline.

3. Use the “why-what-how-what if” format.

Why is each particular point important?
What is the specific item or step in the process?
How will the user implement it?
What if things don’t go according to plan?

Using this format helps you to bring the pieces of your product together. It allows you to edit as you plan. You are assembling what you already know, putting it together quickly and editing it quickly into a usable format.

4. Be flexible and open to the fact that your outline may change. That’s okay. You will still have the main outline, the “bones of the structure”. You can always move the main elements around until you get the right fit.

5. You don’t have to create your product in the order that you’re going to deliver it.

Create your product in the way that will allow you to get it done quickly. Start with the areas that are easiest for you. That will give you some momentum to keep going with the more challenging elements of your product.

Once you’ve paid careful attention to these points, you will be able to quickly create a product that clients will be clamoring to buy because it resolves their needs and wants.

Use these steps to get started on creating your irresistible product. Give your clients what they are asking for, give them what they WANT!
