Wouldn’t it be great if you could fast track along the road to success?  Do you want to know how to do this? A simple way is to follow the lives of other successful people. If there is one thing that is certain in life is that everyone makes mistakes. Even the most successful business people have made wrong decisions at some point in time. The difference is that successful people learn from their mistakes and turn them into something positive. In the same way they can be great as mentors. You can learn from their experiences, especially the positive ones that have made them successful.

The Bad, the Ugly and the Good News

As a business owner you will no doubt have made some mistakes along the way. I know that I have and in the process I have learnt some short cuts, some ways not to do things, and what things have the most impact on my business. As a business person I have experienced some of the bad and the ugly. I may be working just three days a week and have a million dollar business now, but I didn’t start out that way. My road to success has involved me having to overcome numerous obstacles. Personally I think I have probably overcome every obstacle you have ever faced or are likely to face. Each one of those has given me a renewed perspective and strategies for continuing to move forward. For you this is the good news. It means that you can learn from my experiences without having to make the same mistakes yourself. The strategies in the programs are based on solid experience. They can give you results, just as they have for many of my other clients. Buying into a business community can give you access to mentors and people with a vast depth of business experience. They can be your encouragement and support when you are facing challenges.

Benefits of Working with Successful People

•    Successful people often have high energy levels and this can be contagious. Their excitement about ideas and strategies can spur you on to achieving your goals.

•    Successful people have proven strategies which can often be applied to other similar businesses. This can help you fast track your business success.

•    Being part of a business community provides you with encouragement, support and accountability.

•    As you learn from more experienced people so you too can start developing your own strategies that other people may be able to benefit from.

•    Following proven strategies helps you to avoid common pitfalls and can speed up your business success.

•    Being in a business community allows you to interact with others who have had similar experiences and who understand the challenges of running your own business.

Even though you may be in business on your own, it doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to figure out absolutely everything on your own. Becoming part of a business community can give you access to valuable information, strategies and business tactics. Using other peoples proven success can help you to get on the fast track to achieving your goals.

Have you noticed when someone receives an award for an achievement, they usually thank someone else without whom that achievement would not have been possible?  When an actor receives an Oscar, they often say something like, “I owe it all to my wife (or whomever).” They thank their parents, spouses, and anyone who has given them the support and encouragement they needed to reach their goal.

When you set big goals that require you to stretch and grow, you owe it to yourself to have a good support system in place.

Finding a mentor is one of the best ways to get that support.

So, how do you find the right mentor? The person who will really make that positive impact on your business and life?  Ideally, your mentor should be someone who is experienced and has already produced the results you want. Look for someone who has been through and understands the process of change you’re going through because they are making constant positive changes in their own life. This is your best choice for a mentor.

What can your mentor do for you? Your mentor (if selected carefully) will help keep you on target as you step up to change. He or she can show you how to deal with distractions so you aren’t sidetracked on your path to reaching your goals.

A mentor who is on a fast track of growth can teach you the strategies that will help you during periods of massive change. Your mentor will be able to help you decide not only what you need to be doing, but what you need to stop doing as well.

When you undertake a massive change, what you have to stop doing is as important as what you need to start doing. A strong mentor can help in this area. For example, your mentor can help you to clearly see which things are not going to fit with the new you, and which projects will help you to achieve your goals. This means that you have to decide which projects to pursue and, even more importantly, which to ditch.

A good mentor has the ability to see you, and the you that you’re stepping into; their belief in you is stronger than their belief in the obstacles that challenge you. A mentor will guide you through the process of change as you take the steps to your new reality.

That’s exactly what happened for me.  Deciding to work with a mentor was one of the best decisions I ever made.  And I continue to invest in myself and work with a number of amazing mentors.  When I first took that step, I really took a leap forward and upwards in my business.  It made such a powerful difference in my life – how I viewed myself and how I viewed my business.

Most successful business people have had help throughout their careers, and most are willing to offer the same to others. Think about successful business owners you admire. Consider people you’ve met through your networking or training groups or other professional affiliations.

You deserve to have a mentor. Make the decision – take that step forward.  The right person is waiting to give you the support you need to achieve your goals.

Are you thinking about starting a high-end coaching, consulting or mentoring program? If you’ve got years of accumulated knowledge, a top-level program can be a great way to share that information and help your clients achieve success. It may be time for you to stop running one-day programs and selling books and launch a top-level coaching program, instead. You can provide great results for your clients, and truly share your information in a significant way through these programs.

One-day workshops may be good for clients who have limited time or budget but want to make a difference in their business. In a one-day workshop, you can begin to create the foundation for a successful business owner to make a transition in the way he or she does business. However, a one-day workshop isn’t a magic medium for you to create an army of happy, successful businesspeople. You can only share so much information through a one-day workshop, and you’re essentially always starting clients out on the same basic level; they never progress past the techniques you can cover in a single day.

If you’ve accumulated a lot of knowledge about success in your medium, business or industry, you might consider selling e-books. E-books are typically a compilation of knowledge and techniques that people can use to work on their own and boost their business. E-books can provide a revenue stream, but they’re typically limited in scope.

An e-book cannot begin to convey all the accumulated knowledge and business acumen of years in an industry or field.  Like one-day workshops, an e-book can help build a basic foundation for client success, but many clients never progress past that basic level of knowledge and technique contained in the e-book. This makes e-books great for introductory materials, but ultimately too limited to help clients achieve overall success.

Top-Level Coaching Programs are Great for Client Success
Top-level coaching programs let you really share your accumulated wisdom and business expertise with your clients on a basis that can help them achieve success. Unlike e-books and one-day workshops, a top-level coaching program typically enables you to work with your clients one-on-one to help them develop the skills and techniques specific to their field. You can help your clients set goals and achieve them with your expertise; you’re not just leaving clients alone to blunder around and try to build on a basic foundation.

Top-level coaching programs provide clients with an ideal medium to move beyond the basics and truly grasp success. This is good both for you and your clients. If you’d like to help your clients achieve real results, it’s time to move beyond e-books and one-day workshops and consider launching a top-level coaching program.

Do you know that spirited feeling of enthusiasm and determination when you are about to set out on a new venture? You begin with purpose, intent and a very conscious desire to achieve your goals.

This is also the time that your subconscious does its best work. Beware the perils of your subconscious desires.

When you start to do something new, your subconscious mind’s job is to stop you from doing that. You are venturing into unfamiliar territory, and your subconscious mind has a fear of the unknown.

In an effort to protect you, it will create external circumstances that are out of harmony with the direction that you want to go.  Your subconscious will also create emotions that want to pull you back from doing the thing that you should be doing.

Here is what is truly insidious about your subconscious – everyone’s subconscious.  It knows precisely the thing to do to get you to stop moving forward. It knows how to stop you, in a way that’s unique to every person.

Let’s say, for example, that you’ve signed on for a new coaching or training seminar that is going to be the turning point for your business. Or you’re developing a new product or service, or you are embarking on an entirely new fitness and lifestyle regimen.

While you may have a very conscious desire to achieve those goals, your subconscious may have totally different plans.  Are you suddenly sick after not being ill for ten years? Did you hurt yourself? Did the water pipes in the house burst?  All of this could well be your subconscious creating distractions, trying to get you to stop doing what you’re doing.

There are things you can do to keep your conscious and unconscious desires in alignment. If you’ve implemented something new and everything in your life suddenly seems  awry, take a deep breath and keep moving forward.

Maybe you did catch a cold, but it’s not a sign that you should stop what you’re doing. If the water pipes did burst, that would have happened whether you were doing something new or not.

Don’t believe that what your subconscious is throwing at you is real. Otherwise, you will want to stop. Your subconscious is creating an alternate reality to try to keep you from moving forward. My mentor, David Neagle calls this the “breakdown before the breakthrough.” Don’t let it stop you. Continue to move forward through it.

When you do break through, something unique and remarkable will happen. The more awareness you gain, the more the fear falls away. The fear becomes an untruth, one that is no longer holding you in its grip, no longer trapping you right where you are.

Everybody is stopped by this subconscious force at some point in time or another. Keep putting one foot in front of the other and you will find yourself at the once unknown destination. That thing that you were once most afraid of, will then be gone.

Have you ever come across a successful business, on the face of it, looks really simple and straightforward? You look at the website, at the marketing, and the products, and it seems like the winning formula is one that you could apply to your own business. Whatever they are doing can’t be rocket science, so you won’t have to be a genius to mimic it and get the same results.

So many people do this when setting up their business. They look at people who are getting the results in their business that they want in their own and think that it looks easy. It’s pretty simple to copy what other people are doing, apply it to their own business, and watch the profits roll in. They tell themselves that they can figure it all out on their own.

They are wrong.

If you think that you can easily follow someone else’s roadmap to success without direction, you will fall into the same trap. This is one of the lies that we tell ourselves, because it’s so much easier to think that we can teach ourselves than it is to seek that advice from others. You can use someone else’s experience to fast track your own success but it has to be done the right way.

There’s a simple method of doing this: invest in mentoring. It will help you realise how much you are holding yourself back by simply trying to copy other people.  You can also be assured that your investment will be returned more times than you can imagine. It’s amazing how much mentoring gives back to you.  It’s not just the information that mentors share with you, but also the fact of having someone who is already getting results believing in you.

Let me give you an example of the power of mentorship. One of my mentors is Yanik Silver, and my business has really changed since I joined his mastermind group. Just before I held my first big workshop, I talked to him about my plans. I was really nervous about it, because I’d never done a three-day workshop of that size, and I had never charged £1,500 for people to come to the workshop. I remember saying to Yanik, “I think this might be possible for me.” He looked me right in the eye and said, “Yes, I think you can do that.”

That simple sentence was the value I got from investing in him. It wasn’t that I needed specific information from him or advice on how to run my workshop. Instead, it was the fact that someone who was already very successful was able to tell me that I could be as well. I needed to hear it from someone more experienced than me, and it gave me the confidence to run the seminar the way I had planned it. That seminar was a great success – both for me, and, I hope, for the people who attended.

On the other hand, before one of my conferences, I did a series of preview calls.   A number of people emailed me at the end of the series telling me that they had gotten so much from the calls that they didn’t think they needed to go to the course. A year or so after the course, I did a bit of sleuthing, and from what I can see, none of these people had made any real progress. Not one.

I’m not saying that if these people had come to my conference, they would all now be multi-millionaires – I’m not trying to suggest I have all the answers for everyone. But it did make me wonder how many “goose chases” and “blind alleys” they have been down because they tried to progress on their own, or because they kidded themselves that they could do it without help.  I’ve tried that track and I know it doesn’t work.

My message to you: invest in a mentor’s help. And you will get help. There are too many pitfalls you will come across when you think you can figure it out on your own. If you keep telling yourself that you don’t need someone’s help, one year from now you will be no further forward in your business. You have a chance to do things differently, so take that chance and start achieving!
