There’s a paradox in any business that’s based on selling time for money – the more successful you are, the less time you have.

A great many of the people I work with tell me that they just want more clients. They are in a situation where there are lots of white spaces on the calendar and not enough clients to fill them.

So from this perspective, it looks like there’s an abundance of time and not enough money – it looks like money is a finite resource.

But that’s not true.

The truth is just the opposite. Time is the finite resource, not money. You can always make more money, but none of us, no matter how rich you are, can manufacture more time.

Now, if you’ve struggled to attract money in the past, you might have difficulty accepting that statement. You might say, “Well, I don’t know that you can always get money. Money hasn’t been that easy for me.”

And if your primary method of making money has been via selling your time, then you’re definitely going to have a problem with that statement. You’ve linked your ability to attract an infinite resource – money – to your supply of a limited resource – time – which is really turning an abundant resource into a limited one.

And that is exactly how the time-money trap keeps its hold over you. That’s how clever it is. You’ve got to be really vigilant and look out for where your belief in the connection between time and money is operating. Because it’s going on all the time.

But the fact is that with the right marketing techniques, you will very easily and quickly fill up the workspace on the calendar. If you’re halfway good at what you’re doing, then it doesn’t take long for the word to get around and for you to have a full diary. And you’ll have a pipeline of prospective business that keeps it filled.

So start paying attention to how the time-money trap is influencing you. You may have a hard time coming around to accepting the idea, but once you do understand that there’s always more money available than time, you’ll break that hold and begin to attract more clients than ever before.
